Israel Kills Hezbollah Leader Hassan Nasrallah in Major Airstrike
Hezbollah-Israel War Escalates: Airstrikes Intensify Across Lebanon
The ongoing conflict between Hezbollah and Israel has gotten worse, especially with Israel’s attack on Gaza. What started as tensions is now a full war between the two.
The violence between Hezbollah and Israel includes airstrikes, rocket attacks, and targeted killings by Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad, which has led to many deaths and injuries. On September 23, Israel carried out its biggest airstrike in years, hitting over 1,300 targets across Lebanon, mostly in the south.
Four days later, Israel killed Hezbollah’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, in an airstrike that destroyed several buildings in Beirut. Even with this, Hezbollah continues to fire rockets at Israel.
Israel is preparing for a ground invasion by sending more soldiers to its northern border. However, erasing Hezbollah is unlikely because it is closely connected to the local Shia population in southern Lebanon.
Israel has a few options, but none are easy. One option is creating a buffer zone by pushing Hezbollah away from the border. This would require Israeli soldiers to stay in Lebanon, but it could be dangerous, as Hezbollah knows the land well and has experience ambushing Israeli forces. Even if Israel creates this zone, Hezbollah can still launch rockets from other areas.
Fighting Hezbollah might make the group stronger because it’s hard to destroy an idea. In 2006, Israel tried to eliminate Hezbollah but couldn’t, and Hezbollah claimed victory simply by surviving.
There is also a risk that a bigger war might start, dragging Israel into a long and costly conflict, which might lead to a situation where negotiations, instead of fighting, become the only way forward.
