Taylor Swift Endorses Kamala Harris for President in 2024 Election

Taylor Swift Backs Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in 2024 Presidential Race

Taylor Swift Endorses Kamala Harris, Calls Her a 'Steady-Handed, Gifted Leader

Pop star Taylor Swift announced on Tuesday night that she supports Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election. Swift shared this news on Instagram, where she has over 283 million followers, calling Harris a "steady-handed, gifted leader."

Swift wrote, "I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos."

Swift also praised Harris’ choice of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her vice-presidential running mate. She called him a strong supporter of LGBTQ+ rights, women’s rights, and IVF (in vitro fertilization).

Swift encouraged her fans to do their own research and make their own choices about voting. She also reminded first-time voters to register to vote and suggested voting early for convenience. She promised to share links in her Instagram story with information on how to register and find early voting dates.

Swift, 34, humorously signed her post as "Childless Cat Lady," referring to a term used by Trump’s running mate, Senator JD Vance, to describe women without children. Swift posted a photo of herself holding her cat, Benjamin Button, who once appeared on the cover of Time magazine with her.

The Harris campaign was surprised by Swift's public support, according to two campaign officials. They viewed her endorsement as a "decisive victory" for Harris after the debate against former President Donald Trump. The campaign believes Swift’s support shows Harris's ability to attract a wide range of followers.

Many people expected Swift to support Harris. She had supported Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in the 2020 election and allowed the Biden-Harris campaign to use her song “Only the Young” in an ad.

In the past, Swift stayed away from politics, but she became more vocal after releasing her documentary "Miss Americana" in 2020. In the film, she openly criticized Senator Marsha Blackburn, a Republican from Tennessee, and supported her opponent, Phil Bredesen. Though Blackburn won, Swift's call for people to register to vote inspired many young people to take action, according to Vote.org.

In November, an NBC News poll found that 40% of registered voters had a positive view of Swift, while 16% had a negative view. Among Democrats, 53% liked her, while 28% of Republicans felt the same.

In her Instagram post, Swift also addressed false images created by artificial intelligence that showed her supporting Trump and his running mate, JD Vance. She said these AI images were shared on Trump’s platform, Truth Social, and expressed concern about how AI could spread false information. "The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth," she said.

Swift's post makes it clear who she supports in the upcoming election and why it is important to speak out against false information.
