Rich Homie Quan, whose real name was Dequantes Devontay Lamar, was one of the most well-known rappers from Atlanta. He became very popular in the mid-2010s, especially after his 2013 hit "Type of Way" and his 2015 song "Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)." He was nominated for several awards, including BET and BET Hip Hop Awards for best new artist and the people's champ award. He also worked with other famous artists like 2 Chainz, Young Thug, Gucci Mane, and Trinidad James.

Rich Homie Quan was born in October 1989 and was the oldest of three siblings. He was raised by a single parent. When he was younger, he wanted to be a baseball player, but later, he chose to focus on music. He was honest about his tough early life and spent 15 months in jail in 2011 for being involved in burglaries. After leaving jail, he dedicated himself to music and became a big name in the rap scene.

Singer Jacquees was one of the first to express his grief, saying on X (formerly Twitter), "Rest in Peace my brother Rich Homie Quan. I love you for Life," and called him a "legend." Rapper 2 Chainz also posted on Instagram, expressing his sadness and sending prayers to Quan's family. Quavo shared a photo of himself with Rich Homie Quan and other artists, saying, "May God be with us, never saw this being apart of our journey."

Music engineer Alex Tumay, who had worked with Rich Homie Quan over the years, said he was "one of the nicest people" he had ever worked with and called it "absolutely crushing news."
