Jannik Sinner's Win Over Daniil Medvedev Secures Third Grand Slam Semi-Final

Jannik Sinner Defeats Daniil Medvedev to Reach US Open Semi-Finals

Italian Star Jannik Sinner Reaches US Open Semi-Finals, Beats Medvede

Jannik Sinner won a tough match against Daniil Medvedev on Wednesday at the US Open, beating the 2021 champion 6-2, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4. With this win, Sinner reached his third semi-final in a Grand Slam tournament this year.

Sinner, who won the Australian Open earlier this year, has been in great form. He now holds 21 match wins in major tournaments this season, more than any other player. At 23 years old, Sinner is the first man born in the 1990s or 2000s to make it to the semi-finals of all four Grand Slam events. He is also the first Italian man to achieve this in the Open Era.

Sinner's Strategy Pays Off

The match between Sinner and Medvedev was a battle of tactics that lasted two hours and 39 minutes. Sinner used many different strategies to beat Medvedev, including serve-and-volleys, drop shots, and powerful shots to all corners of the court. The longer the rallies went on, the harder Sinner hit the ball.

"It was very tough; we know each other quite well," Sinner said after the match. "We played in Australia this year and then in London. We knew it was going to be very physical." He pointed out how the match kept changing as both players tried to gain the upper hand.

Medvedev, the fifth seed, started strong after a shaky first set and won five games in a row to take the second set. However, Sinner quickly bounced back in the third set, winning the first five games and getting closer to victory.

In the fourth set, Sinner saved two break points when he was down 2-3. One of these was saved with a big serve-and-volley play. Medvedev missed his chance when he sent a backhand volley wide. Sinner then broke Medvedev’s serve in the next game and held his serve to win the match, converting his second match point.

Looking Ahead to the Semi-Finals

Sinner played smart and aggressive, moving well and winning 28 out of 33 points at the net. “We tried to work really hard on this part of the game. I know I can still get better, especially at the net," Sinner said. "I’m happy with how I played today, and let’s see how I do against my next opponent."

This win improved Sinner's record to 6-7 against Medvedev. Earlier in the rivalry, Sinner had lost their first six matches, but he has since won five in a row, including a big comeback at the Australian Open final this year.

Sinner will now face 25th seed Jack Draper in the semi-finals. Draper, from Britain, won their only previous match back in 2021. At that time, Sinner was ranked 23rd in the world, and Draper was 309th. Now they will play each other on one of the biggest stages in tennis.

With this win, Sinner became the third Italian man to reach the semi-finals of the US Open in the Open Era, following Corrado Barazzutti in 1977 and Matteo Berrettini in 2019. Sinner is on a nine-match winning streak, having recently won the Cincinnati Masters.

Fans are eager to see how Sinner will perform in his upcoming semi-final match and whether he can continue his strong run in New York.
