Teen Gunman Kills Four at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia

A tragic incident took place at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, on Wednesday when a 14-year-old student opened fire, killing four people. The school is about an hour away from Atlanta. The victims included two students and two teachers.

The shooting caused chaos as students quickly sought safety. In one classroom, the words "hard lockdown" appeared on a screen, and students, including junior Layla Ferrell, used desks and chairs to block the door, creating a barricade to stay safe. Layla described the scene as frightening, with students desperate to protect themselves.

In another classroom, Kaylee Abner, a sophomore, was in her geometry class when she heard the gunshots. She and her classmates hid behind their teacher’s desk, which was flipped over to block the door. A classmate was praying, and Kaylee held his hand as they waited for help to arrive.

The four people killed in the shooting were identified as two students, Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, both 14 years old, and two teachers, Richard Aspenwall and Christina Irimie. This information was shared by Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Chris Hosey in a news conference.

Besides the four fatalities, nine other people, including eight students and one teacher, were injured and taken to hospitals. Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith stated that all of the injured are expected to survive.
