Walmart Recalls Apple Juice Due to High Levels of Arsenic

Walmart apple juice recall

Walmart has recalled almost 10,000 cases of apple juice after finding that it contains more arsenic than is safe. Arsenic is a toxic substance that can be harmful to health.

The apple juice in question is sold under the "Great Value" brand in 8-ounce bottles. The juice is made by a company called Refresco. They voluntarily recalled 9,535 cases of the apple juice in 25 states across the U.S.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that the recall is because the apple juice contains too much inorganic arsenic, which is above the safe level set by industry standards.

The FDA first issued the recall on August 15, but on Friday, they raised the recall to a Class II level. This means that drinking the juice might cause health problems that are usually temporary or reversible. However, there is also a small chance of more serious health issues.

Long-term exposure to inorganic arsenic can lead to skin problems and increase the risk of skin, bladder, and lung cancers, as well as heart disease, according to the FDA.

Walmart spokesperson Molly Blakeman said that the safety of customers is very important to them. Walmart has removed the recalled apple juice from its stores and is working with the supplier to investigate the issue.

This is not the first time Walmart has had to recall products. In July, some vegetables like cucumbers, bell peppers, and green beans were recalled due to potential Listeria contamination. In June, ice cream cakes from Friendly's were also removed from Walmart stores for the same reason.
